Can
two nurses travel together?
Most definitely.
In fact, it is probably be a good idea to
make your first travel assignment with a friend. Any number
of nurses can travel together. But it's probably better to
use the same travel nurse company. That way they can put you
in the same apartment complex or even in the same apartment
if you want a two bedroom.
You can either work at the same hospital
or at different hospitals. Many nurses that travel together,
travel with friends that work in the same unit. This works
out, except when the schedules don't meet. But in many cases
it works out great.
You might even be able to save some money
if you are more then just friends. If a husband and wife,
both nurses, are traveling together, they can share an apartment.
This way, they can get the apartment paid for, for one of
them, and the other can get the housing stipend paid to them.
Two nurses staying together in this way, can even work for
two separate travel nurse companies.
Or if you prefer to have your own apartment
and just be close to another nurse friend, you can do that
too. I once met two nurses from Missouri. One worked in Pediatrics,
the other worked in a different unit. They wanted to travel
together but have separate apartments. They were able to do
this by working for the same company.
By traveling with another nurse, not only
do you have company and someone to share your memories with,
but you also can split the traveling costs. Especially if
you drive. You only need one car. You can also share clothes
and help each other out by cooking for one another. You also
have someone to take your picture when you go sight seeing.
It can get annoying sometimes asking strangers to take your
picture.
Another benefit is, that you will get out
and do more stuff. I have noticed some travel nurses that
travel by themselves, tend to stay to themselves and don't
get out as often as they should. That is one of the reason
we have a bulletin board and chat room on this site. So that
nurses in the same areas can meet and hang out together.
It is not worth it to travel to a great
place and not go out because you have no one to go with. It's
understandable, I wouldn't like to go to dinner by myself
or go sightseeing by myself either. But sometimes you have
to do it.
Having a friend with you, helps keep you
from getting homesick as well. Loneliness can creep up on
you, especially at night. Having a friend there will keep
that loneliness at bay.
Many travel nurses are also young,
and not used to living on their own. Travel nursing provides
a great way to learn to live on your own. But if you don't
want to bring a friend along. It's possible and whole lot
more fun.
