What
Kinds of Travel Nursing Jobs are Available?
The travel nursing jobs projected outlook
has never looked better. With 3 million registered nurses
manning hospitals and clinics across the nation, there is
still a shortage of staff. Because of the advancing age of
current travel nurses, health care centers are looking to
fill the void with new nurses. In essence, nursing constitutes
the second largest occupation - both current and projected.
There are dozens of different travel nursing
jobs available. For starters, one must have the proper accreditations
and education to earn more and work in multiple fields. If
you have a bachelor's degree, you are automatically entered
into the running for an advanced nursing position. These include
specialty learning like human physiology and microbiology.
If you pursue a Masters degree, your selection
of travel nursing jobs becomes wider. You may become a nurse
practitioner, who can prescribe medications and treat common
illnesses. You may also go into nurse anesthetics. Contrary
to popular belief, doctors do not administer anesthetics alone
- nurses do so, and this is one reason for their high demand.
Certified registered nurse anesthetists work exclusively in
surgical and obstetrical environments working with patients
before, during, and post operating.
Specialties are endless in the travel nursing
industry. The versatility of this profession is what drives
many individuals to pursue it! Five of the nursing specialties
in highest demand include telemetry, medical-surgical, perioperative,
emergency department, and critical care nurses. Telemetry
nurses specialize in operating equipment that test for a patient's
heart rate and other vital signs. In addition, they are highly
trained in cardiac knowledge and educate patients on their
conditions. Medical-surgical nurses specialize in treating
patients before and after surgery,. Perioperative nurses are
charismatic individuals who treat patients who undergo invasive
procedures (i.e. colonoscopies) and make them as comfortable
as possible. Of course, emergency medical is self-explanatory.
For mind buffs, travel nursing jobs can
also mean working in the psychiatric-mental health field.
Travel nurses can work in either a basic or advanced setting.
They can work with individuals to assess their mental health
needs, providing therapy, teaching about health, and counseling.
On the flip side, registered nurses with a Masters degree
can apply for the Psychiatric Nurse title which allows them
to treat disorders and prescribe medications. Therapy can
also be performed here as well.
Labor nurses, oncology (cancer treatment),
orthopedic (skeletal health care) titles and more can be had
by travel nurses that seek an advanced degree or an additional
certification in a specialty. The kinds of travel nursing
jobs available depend on your education, credentials, and
the demand (which is always high) for this skill set. Remember,
obtaining a degree beyond your registered nurse certification
or Bachelors is enough to broaden your career opportunities.
