Mail Forwarding Service
So you are going to start traveling.
Great!
But what do you do about all
your mail?
Your bills, bank statements,
magazines, etc!
The first thing that comes
to mind is to have the post office forward all your mail to
your new location. But there are a couple problems with this.
First, you will probably only
be in your new location for 3 months or so. And then you need
to move again. So any mail that comes to your house, will
be forwarded to your first assignment address, then after
3 months will start getting forwarded to your second assignment
address.
It could take up to a month
to get to you. If it ever does.
Unless you don't want your
mail, this is not a good option.
You can also call all the people
sending you mail and change your address with them everytime
you move. But that could mean a dozen or so phone calls everytime
you move. This won't work either.
If you plan on doing at least
2 assignments, then you need to get yourself a mail forwarding
service.
A mail forwarding service will
give you a mail box and hold any mail that comes to that box.
You then tell them where you want it sent, and they will forward
it to you. So even if you move every month, your address can
stay the same. The only thing you need to do is tell the forwarding
company the new address to forward the mail to.
The mail forwarding service
we use and have found to be cheaper and better then anything
else out there is called MailLinkPlus.
You rent a mailbox with them.
Then you change all your mail to come to this box. You do
this by calling all your financial institutions and filing
a mail forwarding ticket with the post office.
Everytime you get a piece of
mail, this service emails you that yo have mail and you can
actually see who the sender is. You can then schedule how
often you want the mail forwarded to you. They charge $2 to
forward mail plus the cost of the postage. I have my mail
sent once a week to keep the costs low.
If there is mail in your box
that you do not want, you can click a button, and they will
throw it away for you.
It is simple and easy. We've
been using them for months will no problems. I do everything
via the web and have never ever had to call them for anything.
They answer all emails quickly and are cheaper than all the
other mail forwarders I researched including the UPS stores.
Getting your mail forwarded
is one of the expenses you need to put up with if you want
to go traveling. Missing even one bill and payment can lead
to problems on your credit report and that is definitely something
you want to avoid. So set up your mail forwarding before you
leave. You will be glad you did.
